Rex Equus, Latin for "King of Horses", is the name we have given to our new range of premium wines. Created as a testament to the Perdeberg area's wine producing capabilities, these wines reflect the true characteristics of each cultivar - showing off ample fruit, good oak integration and rich texture. Passion and dedication has shaped this premium range, adding a personal and intimate touch that ensures these wines will be enjoyed for years to come.
 
Rex Equus: a labour of love
Origin: Paarl
 
Vineyards: The vineyards selected for these wines have proved themselves over years to deliver outstanding quality. We identify the best rows within these vineyards and painstakingly manage them to ensure they deliver the best quality possible.
 
Vinification: The grapes are harvested in small batches and individually fermented in open top fermenters. Selected yeasts and techniques are used during fermentation that suits each batch accordingly. Grapes are then pressed in a traditional basket press to ensure that there are no harsh tannins extracted during the process. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is pumped to barrel where it undergoes secondary fermentation. We use hand selected French and American oak barrels to ensure the wine is matured according to the style and market it is destined for.

Rex Equus Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

This well-balanced and elegant wine explodes with various flavours that are typical of Cabernet - featuring dark plum, berries, nutmeg, spices, mint, Eucalyptus and tobacco. 20 months in the barrel assure a well-designed bouquet and smooth, powdery tannins that lead to a velvety texture on the palate.

Rex Equus Chenin Blanc 2008

This is a real Perdeberg Chenin, characterised by an array of tropical fruit flavours, most notably guava and pineapple. The oak and fruit are in perfect harmony and show good complexity and structure on both the nose and palate. Medium-bodied and smooth, this wonderful Chenin has a long and full aftertaste with hints of apricot, peach, pear and guava.

Rex Equus Shiraz 2007

This beautifully crafted and multifaceted Shiraz really shows off what the Agter-Paarl area can deliver. White pepper, spice, mocha, vanilla, black berries, cherries and liquorice are all evidence of what this bold Shiraz holds. Optimal extraction and 20 months in the barrel guarantee round tannins and a good combination of flavors. This full-bodied Shiraz has a long and warm finish of chocolate and spice.
