Perdeberg Winery

Perdeberg Winery did exceptionally well at the recent Young Wine Show 2009.

The local leg of the Young Wine Show 2009 was held on Wednesday the 19th of August 2009, celebrating wines from the Paarl-area. The national leg of the prestigious Young Wine Show 2009 followed on Thursday, the 20th of August. The results were announced during a national prize giving at Goudini Spa in the Western Cape; presented by the South African National Wine Show Association, the Worcester- and Breedekloof wine regions, as well as Agri-Expo.  

The South African Young Wine Show is held annually to allow winemakers to show off their youngest wines from the current vintage.  “Perdeberg Winery entered forty wines, of which thirty seven received medals. This means that 92.5 % of the wines we entered had won medals,” explains Riaan Möller, winemaker at Perdeberg Winery. Perdeberg Winery elegantly galloped away with eight Gold, sixteen Silver and thirteen Bronze medals, while the Perdeberg Cabernet Franc received the award for Champion Other Red Varietal at the 2009 Paarl event, as well as the Class Winner Trophy at the national event. “We are even more proud to say that Perdeberg received the 2nd most gold medals awarded in the National leg of the Show, ” added Riaan, “and this is a great honour since a total of 2 106 entries were entered into show.” 
Perdeberg Winery creates their wines to reflect the Agter-Paarl's unique area. The area offers many different characters and aromas - this motivates the winemaking team at Perdeberg to experiment with the different topographies that gives each wine its own personality. Perdeberg Winery believes that by keeping wine simple, one lets the wine speak for itself in terms of quality.
