Michael Olivier on PB: Interview with Riaan Moller

Listen to food and wine guru Michael Olivier's interview with our winemaker Riaan Moller.

Riaan Moller (36), winemaker at Perdeberg, grew up in the Cape Wine lands where his passion for wine making started. Growing up he spent his time playing in the vineyards and helping out at neighbouring farms. After school he spent some time abroad but soon realised that it is in the Cape Wine lands where he belongs.

Riaan started his wine making career at a local winery, after which he moved on to other wineries over the years, gaining valuable experience at local wineries such as Kleine Zalze, Slaley, Ernie Els Wines, Spier and overseas at Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma, California. He decided to further his winemaking knowledge and enrolled for a winemaking course at Elsenburg College of Agriculture where he completed a four year diploma course in oenology and viticulture.

Riaan joined the Perdeberg team in 2006 where he strives to create wines that can be enjoyed by everyone, focusing on reflecting the unique Perdeberg area where he lives and work and he is most certain that this has an impact on the wine they create. Riaan’s goal and mission is to create the perfect wine and to be able to do so he is always willing to learn more by listening and sharing ideas with others.
